href=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/learn\/project-management\/gold-plating-in-project-management\/\" target=\"_blank\">gold plating in project management<\/a> causes delays in the project schedule. Other times, it is a lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/learn\/project-management\/project-resources\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/learn\/project-management\/project-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">project resources<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Preventing falling behind schedule is one of the biggest <a href=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/blog\/project-management-challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">project management challenges<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Almost half of the projects in 2021 were overdue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">More precisely, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmi.org\/-\/media\/pmi\/documents\/public\/pdf\/learning\/thought-leadership\/pulse\/pmi_pulse_2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pulse of the Profession\u00ae report<\/a>, 55% of global projects in 2021 were completed on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Among other things, completing projects on schedule varies depending on the level of <a href=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/learn\/project-management\/project-management-maturity-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">project management maturity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/learn\/project-management\/project-management-statistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">project management statistics<\/a> reveal that only 39% of low-maturity organizations complete their projects on time, compared to 63% of high-maturity organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Therefore, regularly monitoring your project\u2019s schedule is a step you do not want to skip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">There are three possible SPI variations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">SPI less than 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">SPI of 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\">SPI greater than 1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">We\u2019ll provide examples for each schedule performance index (SPI) scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"1-spi-is-less-than-1\" class=\"wp-block-heading translation-block\">#1 SPI is less than 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Suppose you are in charge of <a href=\"https:\/\/plaky.com\/blog\/planning-nonprofit-event\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">planning a nonprofit event<\/a> for your company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The project budget is $350,000, and the project team has done 40% of the work against the 50% planned.
