However, the closer it gets to it, the smarter the goal will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Truth be told, S.M.A.R.T. goals <em>do<\/em> take a little more effort to create, but they <em>are<\/em> worth it, especially when you consider that a staggering 92% of people never achieve their goals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Science says it\u2019s due to a lack of reasonable, achievable plans. We have:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Specified the type of revenue we want to increase (<em>monthly recurring revenue<\/em>) and the current baseline (<em>$50,000<\/em>),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Given the time frame (<em>by the end of Q3 of 2025<\/em>) and&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explained how we could accomplish this (<em>by acquiring 10 new clients<\/em>).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"m-stands-for-measurable\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">M stands for Measurable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Another criterion your goals need to fulfill to be S.M.A.R.T. is that you should be able to measure them. Again, we have a couple of questions that will help you achieve that:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What metrics will you use to determine whether you meet the goal?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How will you know whether the goal is accomplished?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some examples of metrics may be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The number of tasks completed per week,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Average hours spent on each task,&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The number of people working on a specific task, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anything else relevant to your goal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Long story short, you should <strong>summarize what proof will confirm that you have made progress or reached your goal.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s look at some examples in the table below \u2014 one of a goal that\u2019s not measurable and one that is.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Non-measurable goal&nbsp;<\/strong><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Measurable goal&nbsp;<\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><em>We want our company to make more money.<\/em><\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><em>We want our company to increase revenue by 22% in comparison to the previous year.&nbsp;<\/em><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The metric used in the second example is percentage, which allows us to easily measure the revenue increase in relation to the previous year.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"a-stands-for-attainable\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">A stands for Attainable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When setting your project goals, <strong>make sure they are realistic and achievable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin with, determine whether you have the resources and capacities to achieve the goal.
