Our Story
Plaky was launched in 2022 by COING Inc. as a part of CAKE.com suite. After building Clockify and Pumble, we wanted to build project management tool so we can offer a complete suite of productivity apps.
We felt that large companies such as Monday, ClickUp, and Asana were overcharging for their services. They offer a free plan but quickly trap customers into expensive paid plans needed to access some basic functionality, like number of users or projects.
So, we decided to create our own project management app and offer it to anyone for absolutely free. Why? We know that each dollar counts when you are a startup and we believe every team should be able to have access to their data without having to pay a fortune.
How we keep Plaky free?
The #1 question we receive is: "How do you make money if the service is free? What's the catch?"
Unlike other platforms, we offer unlimited number of basic features (like number of users and projects). We believe every project management platform should offer this. But, we also plan to introduce paid plans that will have additional non-essential features aimed towards professionals.
When something good is offered for free, like Plaky, it usually comes with a hidden price - most usually it's privacy, something the tech industry is notorious for. That's not the case with Plaky.
We never sell or share any data with anyone. Why? Because we don't have to. We don't have investors or shareholders hungry for profit, so we don't face pressure to make a quick buck by any means necessary.
How can we afford this? We have succesful products like Clockify and Pumble that are widely used by a lot of people for free, but which provide even more value to those who are willing to pay. Plaky follows the same pattern:
Basic
The basic version of Plaky is free and has everything you need, so anyone can easily get started. This lets us make project management accessible to everyone.
Pro (coming soon)
Some teams need extra features (like a more granular permission system, more data types, custom logic, etc). and are willing to upgrade to a paid plan.
This structure lets us democratize task management for everyone, without ever needing to make a profit at the cost of someone's privacy.
